Botham's ret...The Oval Test of 1986 was decent.<br />Botham's return and record breaking exploits followed by he smashing the fastest 50 at that time in test cricket in the number of balls faced. <br />Rain denying England a series leveller win.<br />We had a brilliant 1986/87 tour with not only beating an average Australian team - but the West Indies and Pakistan as well.<br />A test series win in India was a huge achievement. <br />I thought Fowler, Broad and Robinson deserved patience, support and stability. <br />Broad ended with a test average just short of 40.00. But as Frank says, the bad days from the 1980s make me grateful for the (mostly) excellent team we've had for the last 8 years or so. Great players though they were individually Gower & Botham also played in the worst England sides of the post-war era, something that never gets a mention in the Sky commentary box.
