It is part of the magic of sport, and of the Olympics in particular. There is a balance to be struck of course: sport should celebrate achievement and success, it can't be all about plucky losers. It is slightly worrying if the guy that comes last earns more fame and cash than the bloke who wins. But there must always be room to celebrate those who battle against the odds...and charisma is charisma. And Eddie the Eagle had it in spades.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642821992617250048.post-18501389928422520862014-02-05T06:03:52.243-08:002014-02-05T06:03:52.243-08:00Excellent piece, and I'm with you - there'...Excellent piece, and I'm with you - there's enough room for everyone and the guy deserves kudos for giving it a go.

I might be misremembering, but I think I read that Rupert Grint had been cast as Mr Edwards in the biopic.Old Applejacknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642821992617250048.post-55761905845981708382014-02-04T07:38:38.099-08:002014-02-04T07:38:38.099-08:00Another terrific blog. A man who made huge efforts to get to the Olympics, he deserved all the acclaim and rewards he received. I hope whoever owns those film rights to Eddie's story uses them soon, I think it could do very well. Its funny when you mention the fact that he probably got more attention than the actual winner. Wouldnt happen nowadays...
