As I said, it was probably partly down to my younger years that I had this feeling that things were changing, but Hillsborough was definitely the big turning point in terms of improving the situation for the paying supporter.

ITV's deal though, along with BSB's involvement, was certainly a significant moment in television history for football in England. That 1980s Sports Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13862978693090783638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1642821992617250048.post-57911069117847836332012-08-16T04:37:12.543-07:002012-08-16T04:37:12.543-07:00Nice bit of nostalgia.

The Euros that summer had been marred by hooliganism, and the top flight featured dilapidated grounds like The Den and Plough Lane.

But things did change dramatically at the end of that season, after Hillsborough. I remember wondering how football could continue at all that evening. The talk of all-seater grounds followed soon afterwards and I think we all realised then, at the end of that 88/89 season, that things would never be the same again.Frank Heavenhttp://thetwounfortunates.com/noreply@blogger.com
